NGC 6995 — the southern part of the vast Veil Nebula. A huge supernova remnant. The star exploded roughly 5,000–8,000 years ago, and in that time the nebula has expanded to cover an area of 3 degrees in the sky. Its distance is estimated to be 2,400 light-years.
