The Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC) is a dwarf galaxy of type SBm, a satellite of the Milky Way, located at a distance of about 163,000 light-years from our Galaxy. This distance is roughly equivalent to the diameter of our Galaxy. It belongs to the class of Magellanic irregular galaxies. The Milky Way and the Large Magellanic Cloud are expected to collide in approximately 2.4 billion years.
