The Ring Nebula (NGC 6720, M 57) 10.05.2021
The Ring Nebula, like any other planetary nebula, is a white dwarf surrounded by a shell of ionized gas. Such objects form when a red giant—a star in the late stages of evolution—expels its outer layers into the surrounding space, leaving behind only its degenerate core: a white dwarf.
